In July 1931, Thomas Campbell Southard, his wife, Mary Hollister Southard, and his sister, Carrie Southard Moore incorporated the forerunner of Southard Supply, Inc. under the name of SOHOLMO, Inc. with 500.00 capital.  The first income tax record stated “NO SALES, NO INCOME, NO TAX DUE’!

Thomas C. Southard ran for mayor of Columbus on the Socialist ticket (not elected) and campaigned for the Third Street VIADUCT connecting Summit Streetand Third Street (SUCCESSFULLY).  At age 62, he supported and campaigned for the Townsend Plan forerunner of a “Pay as you go” social security retirement system.

Through the years family members worked for the fledgling company as it evolved into a million dollar corporation.  Located in a remodeled downtown structure built in 1880; 4 floors, parking lot, loading docks and easy freeway access continue to serve this ¾ century business.  Southard Supply has continued to support the tenets established by its founder of integrity, honesty, and service.

Twenty five plus employees have been retired from this organization over the years.  Now in its 8th decade of operation, under the guidance of 3^rd and 4^th generations, a personal banker once quipped, “It’s nice to see nice people succeed!”
